All the pieces are now in place on Tango and the next step is the threadpainting. It's time consuming and I'm also buzy with a new class at QU in screen printing. It's a lot of fun and I will post some pictures in a while. Sunday, 5 April 2009

Tango progress
Here is a little update on Tango. The background is slowly but steadily emerging. I am planning to put all the pieces up and the decide if I need to do any changes. Making the background actually takes a lot more time to do than I expected, but there is quite a few pieces that have to be put in place. The Machine Quilting class has been taking a lot of my time lately, too, but the wholecloth quilt is now half done. I don't feel comfortable sitting at the sewing machine all day, so I try to split my time even between quilting and the Tango.

Postcards

I made a little sidetrack today and made a couple of postcards for some good friends. At last I could use the Babylock embellisher I bought in December. This was my first attempt, so much can be improved. I found that silk velvet was very nice to felt, but regular silk did not look that good. Practice will be necessary here as with everything else :-)Jeg tok et lite sidesprang idag og laget et par postkort til noen gode venner. Øvelse trengs her som i alt annet :-)

More Machine Quilting
This is my fist try on Trapunto. Not at all difficult to do. It gives a nice raised effect, especially on wholecloth quilts. I learned something similat way back in my dressmaking class, but we called it Matlasse.
Here is a shadowed Trapunto. A colored fabric is cut out in the shape you want and put underneath the wholecloth before sewing.
Next week we are starting on a wholecloth quilt. I want to make a baby quilt for our new granddaughter (will be born March/April). But I will wait till I get this book before I draw a pattern. I saw Philippa Naylor's quilt Flower Power at The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England last August. It was stunning. I have not found a detail picture of it, but you can see the quilt here http://twiddletails.blogspot.com/2008/11/houston-again.htmlPhilippa Naylor web site is also worth a visit. Take a look at her beautiful FM quilting

The Accordion-player
The accordion-player is in place now. I have tried to keep him quite simple and I think I have succeeded with that. The accordion was worse. I have cut out some details, but not too many. I might have to use some Shiva sticks to put in some shadows when it is all fused down.Tuesday, 23 December 2008
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Here is the latest update on Tango. The hands are in place. The accordion-player (who stands to the left of the couple) is in good progress.Thursday, 4 December 2008
Update Tango and some knitting
I have been a lousy blogger lately, but here is an update on the Tango project. Their clothing is in place, but their hands are still missing. It will take me some days to do them. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so detailed in my work, but it is probably what it takes to get the result I want :-) It was fun to do this clothes and I think I have got the right fabrics. I'm especially satisfied with the fabric for her dress. It's velvet in real life and I had to google a bit to find fabric that looked like that. I'm always excited when I recive the package, because the colors are not always as I see them on my screen.
This is the sweaters I knitted for my two grandsons when they both had their birtdays in November. The motif is from a popular kid TV program. I also have two granddaughters that will get one for Christmas. One is almost finished and hopefully I will manage to finish one more in time. The only problem is that one of my granddaughters - Mina - she wants a real tractor, too!

New Project - Tango
The picture is of the famous professional Argentine/German tango couple Luis Pereyra and Nicole Nau. The photographer is Guido Gayk and I have got his permissin to use the picture. I wanted more in the picture than just the two, so I have merged three pictures to make this one. The background is a street scene and I have added an accordion-player to the left of them, too.
The size of the project is 59" x 43" and my largest so far. The persons are in full size. Most of all I love to make faces, but this one has so many details all over so I think it will be lot of fun!
